Chickamauga

The Battle of Chickamauga was a battle where the Union, led by General William Rosecrans fought against the Confederates who were lead by General Braxton Bragg. The Union had about 60,000 men ready to fight while the confederates had around 65,000 men ready. The Confederates had about 18,500 casualties while the Union who had 16,170 casualties. The Confederates eventually won the battle after the last of General Rosecrans forces retreated.

The scene after the battle of Chickamauga. It was the second bloodiest battle in U.S history with around 35 thousand casualties. The only battle with more deaths and casualties is the Battle of Gettysburg.

It was a part of the Atlanta Campaign for the Union, but the confederate army made the union retreat back to Chattanooga. The South also protected their supply chain and railroads for a little bit longer.
Eventually General Rosecrans was replaced with Ulysses Grant. Who soon brought reinforcements to the battle.

1. General Bragg used the same strategy in two battles Chickamauga and when he was in Georgia.
2. Confederates crossed the union line in 9 hours .
3. The confederates had the most water to drink after this battle , since they were near the Chickamauga creek while the unions canteens were empty.
