Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was a Union victory.The Union General was George G. Meade ,and he lead less than 20,000 men into battle. The Confederate General was Robert E. Lee ,and he lead 25,000 men into battle. The battle of Gettysburg had many casualties. to be exact the Union had 23,055 casualties ,and the Confederates had 23,231 casualties.

Significance :
The battle of Gettysburg was the place where the most sacrifice was done , it was were division and conflict took place.
In 1863 it was Robert E. lee who took his troops up north ,coincidentally loosing to the union army , days after president Abraham Lincoln gave his famous speech " Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal ,we here highly resolve that the dead shall not have died in vain that the nation shall, under God, have a new birth of freedom—and that governments of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Today it shows as a symbol of healing , reconciliation , sacrifice , courage and patriotism.

1. General George Mead was promoted to the commander of the Union only a few days before the battle.
2. Most of the confederate soldiers were walking barefoot since all most all shoe factories were up north , turns out there was a shoe factory in Gettysburg .
3.One of the confederate soldiers went unconscious during the battle, when he woke up he was in the union side with dead bodies stacked on top of him. He was found alive a couple days later but eventually died due to diseases.
